I just came across a tool that kind of caught me off guard.
It’s the new “Agent Mode” of Accio (@Alibaba.com’s AI-powered sourcing assistant). And while the name might sound like something out of the Marvel movie universe, the tool itself is about as practical and real-world as it gets.
In short, Accio’s agentic AI mode is an AI sourcing agent that understands your sourcing needs and executes complex sourcing tasks all in one simple conversation. So yes, this is something that is different than a search engine and is certainly a lot more than a chatbot. Rather, it is a full-on AI agent that handles all aspects of product sourcing for you, automatically, non-stop, 24/7.
The Problem That Accio Agent Mode Addresses
Imagine you are a small business owner (no, not hard to do if you read my stuff!) You’ve got an idea. Let’s say you want to create a line of mugs inspired by dog breeds. You want them cute, you want them produced well, and you want to get them into your customers’ hands sooner rather than later.
But, is it really a good idea? And how would you validate it, and then manufacture it? Traditionally, this entire process is not so simple. You would need to:
- Do some market research
- Figure out the design direction
- Work on product ideation and validation
- Find suppliers / manufacturers
- Email a dozen of them
- Hope a few reply
- Go back and forth on pricing, materials, shipping, timing, etc.
I’m tired just writing that list!
But this new Accio Agent Mode condenses all of that into just one step. You simply describe what you want – the product idea, your goals, proposed budget, the challenges, and so on – and it goes to work.

In short order, the agent will give you trend insights, design directions, can create images and sketches even, will offer a list of recommend, vetted suppliers, and much more.
Indeed, according to Kuo Zhang, Vice President of Alibaba International, shared:
“Accio Agent is a highly practical tool that can handle multiple tasks simultaneously, operating like a team of dedicated professionals – sourcing agents, product developers, engineers, and market researchers – all working together to grow your business.”
Taking It Out For a Test Drive
And yet, even in this new age of AI, having one tool be able to do all of that seemed like the stuff of science fiction. But I can attest to the fact that it is not. I tested it with my dog mug idea and got a shockingly comprehensive response in about 5 minutes.
Accio’s Agent Mode gave me a “Dog Breed Mug Collection: Product Development Report” which included:
- A list of the most popular dog breeds
- Manufacturing considerations and options
- Food and safety requirements
- Top supplier recommendations
- Market trends
- Sample designs of the mugs:

It would have taken weeks for me to create something even remotely similar, and not nearly as comprehensive. I don’t know about you, but whether you are a solopreneur or are an entrepreneur managing a team, we small business people typically fight battles on two fronts. The first is time and the other is money.
Accio’s agentic AI clearly saves both time and money.
It takes something that typically can be very complicated and turns it into something manageable, and pronto too. Additionally, and this is something I personally struggle with, the tool was like having a seasoned pro at my side. Sourcing products and manufacturers is not something I am intimately familiar with, and so I guess that is what I liked best.
I didn’t have to be a pro.
I got expert help from an AI pro that knows way more than I do about sourcing and manufacturing can do all of the things that can be either laborious, difficult, tedious, or overwhelming (or all of the above).
And minus the invoice to boot!
Final Thoughts
I get pitched tools all the time. Most are just noise. This one actually did something that made my entrepreneurial brain sit up and say, “Huh? That’s useful.”
And by the way, since I am not going to be making those cute dog mugs any time soon, feel free to steal that idea (but if you do, send me one, and make sure its of the world’s greatest Goldendoodle, Hazel!)
